Executive Board

Brian Steel

President

Brian A. Steel has been a steadfast leader within the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9. He began his service as a grievance representative in 2009 and was elected to the Executive Board as the Building Trustee in 2017. He advanced to Vice President in 2018, was elected Executive Vice President in 2022, and in 2024, was elected President, reaffirmed by a sweeping majority of the membership.

A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, President Steel is widely recognized as “The Voice of Central Ohio Law Enforcement.” He is committed to protecting the rights of officers, ensuring fair treatment across all departments, building community support, and advocating for competitive wages, benefits, and strong collective bargaining rights. Under his leadership, the Lodge’s political engagement has advanced the rights, health, safety, and financial security of thousands of members, reflecting his dedication to empowering those he serves.

Brian holds a Master of Public Administration from Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service, a Bachelor of Science in Business from Ohio Dominican University, an Associate’s Degree from the County College of Morris (NJ), and a Certificate in Black Studies from Sinclair College.

In addition to his role as Lodge President, Brian is a 24-year police veteran and currently serves as a Lieutenant with the Columbus Division of Police. He serves as the Executive Director of the FOP Foundation, running the day-to-day charitable arm of the FOP. Brian has been appointed by the Franklin County Commissioners as a member of Franklin County Criminal Justice Planning Board, as well as holding a position on the National FOP Urban Policing Committee. He serves on the National FOP Labor Committee, FOP of Ohio Legislative and Political Screening Committee, and as the elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund, he provides oversight and fiduciary responsibility for billions of dollars in pension assets supporting Ohio’s police officers and firefighters.

Away from work, Brian is a devoted husband and father of five. His service in the Marine Corps, law enforcement, charitable endeavors, and union leadership reflects his lifelong commitment to duty, family, and community.
