Executive Board

Dewey Stokes

President Emeritus

President Emeritus Dewey R. Stokes holds a place in FOP Lodge #9 history that words can scarcely capture. A proud Columbus Division of Police officer, Dewey began his Lodge leadership in 1972 as Second Vice President and, just two years later, was elected President. He went on to serve in multiple roles, including Trustee and Past President, before being re-elected President in 1982, a position he held until 1988. His leadership also extended nationally, serving as National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, where he championed officers’ interests.

In recognition of his extraordinary service, Lodge #9 created the unique role of President Emeritus in 1995, written into the bylaws solely for Dewey. Among his most enduring achievements, Dewey is credited with bringing collective bargaining to Lodge #9, forever changing the way members are represented and protected.

Dewey’s dedication to service continued well beyond the Lodge. He served on numerous boards and organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, and was elected Franklin County Commissioner. His lifetime of service has earned countless awards and commendations. In 2024, FOP Lodge #9 honored his unmatched legacy by renaming its hall Stokes Hall.

In his personal life, Dewey was a devoted husband to his late wife, Flo, with whom he raised three children. Today, he takes pride in being a loving father and grandfather, cherishing time with his family.
