FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, is aware of the arrest of CPD Officer Jacob Smith by patrol officers of the Columbus Division of Police.
Capital City Lodge #9 expects all of our members to follow the law and uphold the standards of conduct required of those who wear the badge. These serious allegations of domestic violence will be addressed through the judicial process in Delaware County Courts. As with any citizen, Officer Smith is entitled to due process under the law.
The FOP does not represent members in off-duty criminal proceedings. Accountability applies equally to everyone, and we commend the responding officers for carrying out their duties professionally and making an arrest when probable cause exists, regardless of whether the individual involved wears a badge.
As President of the largest police union in Ohio, I remain unwavering in my commitment to accountability, transparency, and the integrity of our profession.
Brian Steel
